Schott at Music China 2018

One of the world’s largest music trade fairs will take place in Shanghai from 10 to 13 October 2018. Last year, Music China hosted over 100,000 visitors from over 81 countries. The fair promises to be an absolute highlight in 2018 as well. A diverse program with music education workshops, discussion forums and live music offers additional information and entertainment.

Schott Music will also be present at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), presenting a comprehensive selection of its international publishing program. A special highlight is the launch of the two successful series “Duets for fun” and “The Playlist” in Chinese translation.

In addition, the world-famous pianist Samantha Ward will introduce “Piano Junior” by successful author Hans-Günter Heumann to your workshop.

Schott Music at the Music China 2017

From 11 to 14 October 2017, the greatest music fair of Asia will take place in Shanghai for the 16th time. 90,000 visitors from 89 countries will be able to enjoy a varied programme with music-educational workshops, discussion forums and live music. Among the 1,800 exhibitors, Schott Music will have its own stand in the halls of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), presenting a large selection of products from its varied international publishing programme.

Piano Junior in Chinese

A special highlight will be the publication of the Chinese edition of the German piano method Piano Junior by the successful author Hans-Günter Heumann. This method will be published by People’s Music Publishing House, one of the largest music publishers in China.

Schott wins several prizes of the Best Edition Music Award 2017

At this year’s presentation of the Best Edition Music Awards, Schott Music will take home three prizes at once. Among the winners is also the Austrian publisher Verlagsgruppe Hermann whose productions are distributed exclusively by Schott Music throughout the world.
The German Music Publishers’ Association (Deutscher Musikverleger-Verband e.V.) has been honouring the editorial achievements of German music publishers with the Best Edition Music Award since 1991.

The presentation of the awards will be held at the Frankfurt Musikmesse on the Musikbiz & Culture Forum in hall 8.0, stand D50 on 7 April at 1 pm.

Schott Music at the Frankfurt Musikmesse

The Frankfurt Music Fair, the international trade fair for musical instruments, sheet music, music production and marketing, is held from 5 to 8 April 2017. The Messe is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for both trade and private visitors.

Watkins’ Cello Concerto premieres at the BBC Proms

On 12 August, Huw Watkins’ new Cello Concerto (2016) will receive its world premiere at the 2016 BBC Proms.

Commissioned by BBC Radio 3, Watkins composed the Cello Concerto for his brother Paul Watkins, who will perform as soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and their Principal Conductor Thomas Søndergård. This is Huw Watkins’ first commission as Composer in Association with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, a three-year appointment that will include two further orchestral commissions.

Watkins has a longstanding relationship with BBC NOW beginning in 2001 with the commissioning of his Piano Concerto (2001-2), his first major orchestral work. The orchestra later commissioned a Double Concerto (2004–5) for the 2005 BBC Proms, and have given many performances of his works. Paul Watkins has a similarly strong relationship with BBC NOW, and Huw has stated that the Cello Concerto seemed an obvious choice for his first Composer in Association project.

“Paul’s wonderfully expressive, and deeply musical cello playing has been at the front of my mind while writing the piece. Perhaps this explains why the two outer movements are largely slow, with the lyrical qualities of the cello to the fore; although the central movement is, for the most part, a mercurial scherzo.”

Watkins is currently working on his first Symphony, commissioned by the Hallé Orchestra, which will premiere in spring 2017 with Sir Mark Elder.

BBC Proms 2016

The 2016 BBC Proms season has been announced and this year we look forward to performances of a generous selection of works from the Schott catalogue, including exciting UK and world premiere performances.

Commissioned by BBC Radio 3 for this years Proms festival, Huw Watkins’ Cello Concerto will receive its world premiere performance by BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Paul Watkins conducted by Thomas Søndergård. BBC NOW will also join BBC National Chorus of Wales in a performance of Tippett’s A Child of Our Time conducted by Mark Wigglesworth. Dutilleux’s The Shadows of Time and Schoenberg’s A Survivor from Warsaw are programmed together in a concert with the Philharmonia under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen and a lunchtime concert of choral works by Stile Antico will include Huw Watkins’ The Phoenix and the Turtle. Ligeti’s iconic Ramifications also appears in a programme performed by London Sinfonietta and Widmann’s Con Brio will be performed by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim.

UK premieres taking place include Widmann’s Armonica performed by BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and John Storgårds, Larcher’s Symphony No. 2 – Kenotaph performed by BBC Symphony Orchestra and Semyon Bychkov, and Julian Anderson’s latest orchestral work Incantesimi, commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, performed by Berlin Philharmonic and Simon Rattle.

Schott Music auf der Musikmesse in Frankfurt 2016

Die Musikmesse ist die internationale Fachmesse für Musikinstrumente und Noten, Musikproduktion und -vermarktung sowie ein weltweit einzigartiges Musikevent. Von klassischen Instrumenten, Gitarren und Bässen, Blasinstrumenten und Schlagwerk bis hin zu elektronischem Equipment deckt das Angebot den gesamten Musikerbedarf ab.

Mit neuem Konzept lädt die Musikmesse auch dieses Jahr wieder Besucher vom 7.-10. April ein, die Welt der Musik neu zu entdecken. Die Messe ist täglich von 10 bis 19 Uhr für Fach- und Privatbesucher geöffnet.

Schott Music auf dem bdpm Kongress in Hannover

Vom 18. bis 20. März 2016 veranstaltet der Bundesverband Deutscher Privatmusikschulen e.V. (bdpm) gemeinsam mit dem Europäischen Keyboard und Orgellehrer Verband (EKOL) seinen 11. Bundeskongress im Hannover Concgress Centrum “HCC”. Der Themenschwerpunkt lautet “Musikschule 2020”.

Auch Schott Music wird vor Ort in der Fachausstellung vertreten sein und zahlreiche Produkte präsentieren.

Donaueschinger Musiktage 2015

Neue Musik im Spannungsverhältnis zur klassischen Tradition

Vom 16. bis 18. Oktober 2015 finden die Donaueschinger Musiktage zum ersten Mal unter neuer künstlerischer Leitung von Björn Gottstein statt. Im Rahmen dieser traditionsreichen Veranstaltung finden nicht nur Konzerte, sondern auch Vorträge, Diskussionsrunden und Klanginstallationen ihren Platz. Hier treffen sich Experten, Komponisten und Künstler zu einem anregenden Austausch über die Erschaffung neuer und Neuer Musik. Nachdem es eine Woche zuvor durch das BBC Symphony Orchestra in London uraufgeführt wurde, erlebt No. 48 (night studio) von Richard Ayres bei den Donaueschinger Musiktagen seine deutsche Erstaufführung. Das eröffnende Orchesterkonzert mit dem SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg wird von Schott-Komponist Peter Eötvös dirigiert. Schott Music präsentiert auch in diesem Jahr wieder im Ausstellerbereich in den Donauhallen Partituren der zeitgenössischen Musik sowie aktuelle Produkthighlights und bewährte Ausgaben aus vielfältigen Bereichen wie CDs, Musikbücher, Zeitschriften und Notenausgaben.
